Spring Garden

Back with 2 feet on the ground, another love in my life is gardening. There is nothing like home-grown vegetables and fruit…nothing! (I have a passion for doing everything from scratch and I hope I never change.) Last year, Holming built me a raised garden bed which most have seen on my picasa album. This year, I was able to use my homemade compost to fertilise my garden during the Winter months. Now, I am ready to plant!

As you can see from the photo I’m really squeezing my veggies in this year. I’ve planted 2 types of cucumbers, celery, 2 types of carrots, 3 types of lettuce, dwarf beans, spring onions, beetroot (beets), yellow starburst squash, basil and tomatoes. What's not photographed is the 8 plants of tomatoes (which we jar for Winter use) and 3 types of potatoes. I have all my tomato and potato plants in polyethylene garden bags. Check out the link:

We have clay for soil, so can’t plant in the ground here. These bags are reusable and look tidy since they are all the same colour and style. I also have a hanging basket for an herb garden, thanks to Holming. It was his project.

So, if anyone is in my neighbourhood around late December/January, stop over for a handful of veggies or a salad. Teehee, I can’t wait!

Leslie that's awesome. I ate from a garden during my trip this summer, there is nothing better. For the soul and palette. Life is good, isn't it. Xoxo carla
